Stockyards

To the left you will see the Chicago stockyards.

The stockyards were in production during the 1800's. The Chicago stockyards provided 80% of Amercia's meat. This made the owners of the stockyards very rich. 15%of the workers in the stockyards were women. The owners of the stocks did not take very good care of their workers so they did not live very long. If you were absent from work for a very long time then your job will be gone. The workers would vary in age from young to old. This ment that the owners did not care how old you are as long as you are working and making them money then they were
fine. The condictions were not very safe for the workers because it smelled very bad and whatever disease the animals had then the workers woulld most likely have it. If you went agianst the owners and or decided to do a rally then they would black list you and that ment that you could not get a job ANY where and you ould be forced to go back to the job that you were at or sometimes even worse. Many owners diid not care about the condistions of their buldings so whent the Great Chicago Fire struck many business went out of business. Thank you for youyr time.
